"Ontario Brewers Podcast #17: The Brewers Plate"
Featuring Jamie Kennedy, Paul de Campo and Chris Lowry

What does a great local feast look like in early April in southern Ontario? Artisanal cheeses, breads, and sausages, roasts and stews of wild game and root vegetables, local greenhouse produce, pickles and preserves of every description, fruit pies, and of course, libations from our great local breweries.

A wide selection of craft brews will be on tap for both tasting and drinking from Mill Street, Black Oak, Great Lakes, Steamwhistle, Cameron’s and Wellingtons. Cider from the County Cider company will be available, and there will also be non-alchoholic beverages from Arthur's juice, Oikos Tea and Merchants of Green Coffee.

Last year's menu (2008):

Hors D’Oeuvres

Oysters with a story to tell from Oyster Boy
Prince Edward county sausages and chutneys from Buddha Dog
Organic, local, and exotic pizzas from the Magic Oven

The Main Feast

Deron Engbers - Veritas: 'Oreo' of Northern Woods Mushrooms with Wit beer gastrique, Jerusalem artichokes and walnuts
Paired with Mill Street

Brook Kavanagh - La Palette: Cherry Chocolate Stout Braised Bison Shortrib on Fondant Potato w/ Sour Cherry Jelly. Paired with the Black Oak Chocolate Cherry Stout.
Wheat Berry-Banana Weissbier Fritters with Citrus Curd. Paired with the Denison Weissbier.

Jamie Kennedy: JK signature Ontario Pickerel and frites with Cole Slaw and wild leek Tartar sauce. Paired with Church Key

Mark Cutrara - Cowbell: Legendary, traditional pulled Pork and Beans. Paired with Cameron’s

Karen Vaz - Rebel House: Barley Risotto - With or without smoked trout. Paired with Wellingtons

Marc Breton - Gladstone: Potato and Onion Galette topped with Monforte’s Smoked Sheep’s Milk Cheddar garnished with Toronto Sprouts’ Super Mix and Steam Whistle Pilsner-toasted mustard seed vinaigrette. Paired with Steam Whistle

Desserts both sweet and savory include creations from Sequel and Chris Klugman, and a selection of fine cheeses from the Ontario Cheese Society. Coffee by Raymond Eames & Co., Tea by Oikos and organic apple cider from Filsinger’s.

This first annual event celebrates slow food, local-sustainable food and farming, and import substitution in the winter/spring season in the Toronto region. The event also supports the work of Green Enterprise Toronto.
